Science Centers

The centerpieces of KCFWP's education campaign are the two Science Centers, each located in a popular trading center (Kaburala and Sebitoli) less than one kilometer from Kibale National Park. (Another aspect is the traveling movie show.) The Science Centers display natural artifacts from around the Kibale Conservation Area, giving locals a hands-on experience with the park's amazing wildlife. The Centers act as a draw for people to learn about the project's main goals of tree planting and efficient stoves, demonstrations of which are all around the grounds.

We are very thankful to the Great Ape Trust of Iowa for fully funding both musuems, and to all our other donors for funding the outside stove and tree demonstrations.

The Science Centers are the first of their kind in Uganda, and provide countless new opportunities for exploring and learning about the wonders of the natural world. Clockwise from top left: A young boy tries binoculars for the first time; a young girl compares the skeletons of chimpanzee and human; teens and an old man examining their fingers under the dissection scope; women at the weekly art class in Kaburala experiment with watercolors; being wowed by Kibale's amazing biodiversity.
